Today I’m sharing a lovely and easy to make project that you can do at home with minimal materials and toold! Whether this is a gift or storage bag, the drawstring bag can be a useful accessory for anything from a pair of slippers to a nightwear pouch!

Top tip: Use a ¼” seam allowance.

2 pieces of Woodland fabric measuring 11” x 14”
2 pieces of plain lining fabric measuring 11” x 15”
2 strips of plain fabric each measuring 10.5” x 2”
Two pieces of ribbon or cord each measuring 24” in length

Steps to create:

Step 1. Take the woodland and lining fabrics and cut a 1.5” square from the bottom corner of each piece.
Step 2. Fold the short ends of the two plain strips under by ½”, then fold the long sides to the centre and press.
Step 3: Top stitch along the short edges.
Step 4: Pin these strips to each side of woodland fabric, 1.5”from the top. Sew along each long side to create a channel for the ribbon drawstring.
Step 5: Sew the top of each woodland section right sides together to the top of the lining pieces.
Step 6: Pin these two pieces right sides together and sew all the way round, avoiding the cut out corners and leaving a turning gap of about 4” in the bottom of the lining.
Step 7: Pull open the four cut out corners so that the side seams meet the base and sew straight across.
Step 8: Turn the bag through the gap in the base, then sew the opening closed. Push the lining inside the bag, you’ll notice that as the lining is slightly longer, it creates a contrasting border
around the top. Press. Top stitch around the seam.
Step 9: Thread the two pieces of ribbon or cord in opposite directions through the channels using a safety pin or bodkin. Knot the two ends of each piece together. And pull!

Happy Sewing,

Debbie xoxo
