Christmas, Tutorials

This pretty wreath will make a stylish table centrepiece for the festive season, place it around a candle, or make up a few to create a unique display of wreaths. I really can’t wait to decorate the house this Christmas with a few of these! Below is a step by step tutorial on how to create this project and a materials list. You can buy the dies on the Crafter’s Companion website!

Top Tip: Use natural wool felt for best results. I’ve hand-stitched this one but you could machine sew if you wish.

Materials
:

Debbie Shore Poinsettia Die

Two 23cm [9”] squares of natural coloured felt 20cm and 8cm [8”and 3”]
Circle templates
One 23cm [9”] square of bright red, one green and one dark red felt
Four buttons
Toy filler
Felt glue
8” ribbon to hang

Steps to create
:

1. Using your circle templates, draw then cut out two donuts shapes with the large circle for the outside and small circle to make a hole in the centre.

step-1

2. Sew the two pieces together with a blanket stitch, starting all the way around the middle, then around the outside. Leave a gap in each side of the outer edge for stuffing. Carefully stuff with toy filler, a small amount at a time, try not to stretch the felt as you go. Hand sew over the openings.

step-2
3. Cut four flourish shapes using dark red felt. Arrange around the circle then secure with felt glue.

step-3-b
4. To make the poinsettias, glue six large petals cut from red felt, and glue to a small scrap of felt in a circle.

step-3

5. Glue 5 or 6 small petals to the centre, then add a button to cover the join.

step-4
6. Make up four flowers, and glue them around the wreath.

step-5
7. Hand sew the ribbon to the back of the wreath to hang.

step-6

I hope you have fun creating this wreath! Please remember to be careful if using this as a candle holder! Let me see your creations!

Happy sewing,

Debbie xoxo
